In 1887, the idea of the slot machine was invented by a workman who's name were Charles Fey. Founded in San Francisco, they were homemade and proposed to local mini-casinos in an agreement with owners to have a 50% rental fee for their usage. Lots of people think that first slot machines were really huge and heavy. In fact they have approximately the same overall dimensions as slot machines nowadays. Also, symbols were different back then; fruit images came out later as such entertainment machines started to expand. Having invented such profitable machine Charles Fay began selling his slot machines and had much this way. Liberty Bell is the name of the first slot machine. An increasing trend, Charles Fey was revolutionizing the early gambling industry with that simple game.
In 1907 Charles Fey made a contract with Mills Novelty Company and they began producing a great deal of slot machines. Mills Liberty Bell had been the first production of that merger. 3 years later, the Mills Company designed the very first fruit symbol slot machine called the Operator Bell. The early slot machines were made of cast iron, a heavy substance which was hard to replace from casino to casino. To work out that problem the first wood cabinet slot machine was designed by Mills Company. This lighter material made it simpler for them to transport slot machines to various institutions. (more…)
